[19:04:46] daniel2 I think Apple is already wanting to convert me, but I don't want to
[19:04:47] daniel2 KnownSyntax: ^
[19:05:05] KnownSyntax Why not?
[19:05:11] daniel2 Because this job sucks ass.
[19:05:18] daniel2 Its completely chaotic.
[19:05:26] KnownSyntax Seems solid, to be fair for what’s out there right now. Job market is a shitshow to be frank now
[19:05:43] KnownSyntax Maybe you will be the golden one to bring calmness to the chaos
[19:05:45] daniel2 I'm tired of being given this huge tasks in the morning, told to finish them that day, and then get bitched at when I can't cause my boss does not understand development.
[19:06:05] daniel2 I'm tired of the FTE I am assigned to talking down to me when I have over 15 years more experience than him.
[19:06:34] daniel2 KnownSyntax: For me to get up and move, the job has to be worth more than this.
[19:06:37] KnownSyntax Sounds like a majority of gigs to be fair that don’t understand development lifecycle. I get that a bunch here, where we need to do this RIGHT NOW but the other teams work off sprints, so it won’t get done until their part is done.
[19:06:40] daniel2 Because its draining the fuck out me.
[19:06:46] KnownSyntax Oh they want you to move?
[19:06:52] KnownSyntax So not remote if converted? That’s dumb
[19:06:57] daniel2 Oh yeah, Apple does not do remote.
[19:07:02] daniel2 They have a requirement of 3 days in office.
[19:07:20] KnownSyntax So you would be in what? San Jose? Or another remote office somewhere in Cali?
[19:07:37] daniel2 I answered their question. I told them I'd move to Austin again. Not the bay area.
[19:08:28] daniel2 Living in the Bay Area would cause way too much anxiety for me. No matter how much they paid, it wouldn't be worth it.
[19:08:29] KnownSyntax Austin is nice, lots of growing start ups there. But expensive as fuck due to that (mini-silicon valley to be fair)
[19:08:49] KnownSyntax I know Apple has a big office near my building in San Diego, ironically. So I’m sure they have tons of satellite offices around
[19:09:18] KnownSyntax Right next to Teradata, HP, Amazon, and I can’t remember the other major brands nearby. I think Intel was there but sold their office space
[19:09:30] daniel2 My options are Bay Area, Austin, or London.
[19:11:15] KnownSyntax London, Jesus
[19:11:52] KnownSyntax Yeah the pay would have to be high to be worth it. But the tenure there seems to be very long from all employees that ARE NOT store employees
[19:12:01] daniel2 Not really lol.
[19:12:06] daniel2 I've seen so much turn over.
[19:12:12] KnownSyntax Really? No kidding
[19:12:36] daniel2 Well so. The problem is. This team used to be a part of IS&T. Which is the redheaded step children of Apple.
[19:12:38] KnownSyntax I haven’t seen much from a friend that works there. Can’t remember what department though
[19:12:47] daniel2 They got moved into ASE, which is Apple Services Engineering.
[19:12:55] daniel2 So these engineers are all subpar, well minus maybe 1 or 2.
[19:13:01] daniel2 My manager has no clue what she's doing.
[19:13:33] daniel2 You know we literally have issues of losing access to random stuff on random days?
[19:15:33] KnownSyntax Jesus
[19:15:35] KnownSyntax That’s rough then
[19:15:51] KnownSyntax Yeah tough call to be fair. I’d just make sure to look for the next gig though a month or two before your contract ends
[19:15:55] KnownSyntax To give you enough buffer time tbh
[19:16:07] KnownSyntax Unless they will extend you on contract that is
[19:16:19] daniel2 Yeah, but now I am kind of irritated, cause what if they actually ask/offer.
[19:16:24] daniel2 I'd want to just finish my contract.
[19:18:02] daniel2 GoDaddy really fucked me over. It literally changed my brain chemistry, I feel. I've learned that no money is worth my diminished mental health.
[19:18:19] daniel2 That's literally why I was so quiet for the last 2 years.
[19:18:54] KnownSyntax I told you GD was cool, IF AND ONLY IF, you have a good manager and director. I had that for the first few years, before they replaced them and the new management SUCKED ass so hard
[19:19:02] KnownSyntax But I can understand that completely
[19:19:57] daniel2 It's a matter of never trusting a manager ever again tbh.
[19:19:57] KnownSyntax I would recommend anything on my end of the water but SCA/SPE/SEL all have hiring freezes currently, and SIE is just a shitshow of high turnover every quarter
[19:20:08] daniel2 We've already lost 2 contractors.
[19:20:18] daniel2 1 was let go, the other quit last week.
[19:23:36] KnownSyntax On your team? Rough
[19:25:05] daniel2 yeah
[19:25:05] daniel2 Unintentionally.
[19:25:05] daniel2 The 1 that was let go was my fault :|
[19:25:05] daniel2 I was asked to work with him and guage his experience, and he didn't have any.
[19:50:14] KnownSyntax That’s not your fault. Guy didn’t know what he was doing
[19:50:53] KnownSyntax I’ve had a few contracts like that, where I’m like “bro you totally lied to get this gig and fake it till you make it”.
[21:05:07] daniel2 The other guy who left was one of the stronger ones.
[21:05:13] daniel2 He just left out of no where.
[21:35:43] KnownSyntax Probably found another better paying job or something
