Live Chat & Web
Live Chat (Kiwi)
How the web-based live chat works, connection issues, and WebIRC.
The live chat lets you connect to IRC from your browser on channel and network pages. It uses Kiwi IRC (or a similar client) and connects you directly to the IRC network so you can chat without installing software.
When WebIRC is enabled by the network, your connection appears with your chosen nickname and a virtual host instead of the web client IP, so you are identified like a normal IRC user.
Open a channel or network page and look for the live chat panel or link. Enter your preferred nickname (and optionally connect/register with services) and click connect. You may need to allow the connection in your browser.
- Firewall/proxy: Some corporate or school networks block IRC ports. Try from a different network or use a VPN.
- WebIRC: The network must support WebIRC for the web client to work. Check the network page or ask network staff.
- Browser: Ensure WebSockets and JavaScript are enabled. Try a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge).
Yes. The web client uses secure connections (WSS) when available. Networks that support SSL typically expose a secure port that the live chat connects to automatically.
