Yes, I used to talk to a leader in AnonOps lol

We (I was only an IRCop) and my friends used to host their IRC network. Shit was crazy, had to duplicate host masking 2-3 times per person. Like IRCd would do X, we’d use that to create a vHost on connect and then run another set of keys again.
[00:39:06]

But of course, with the constant DDoS and hacking attempts, the root “admin” who I was friends with said fuck it and dropped them hardcore lol

They had a way better history page that noted this “an accidental chankill, sure”. But looks like they removed it

But that distro would I believe Debian based, the boot screen was a watermelon, and the colors of course were green & purple with the desktop screen being friend chicken lmao

No idea where he went though, I know he got raided by the FBI and used to connect to IRC through a Wii. Then he disappeared completely
[00:42:24]
KnownSyntax
I think his IRC nickname was like Token or TKN, something along those lines.

Not sure if I ever told you that story or not..this was over a decade ago too, like early 2010s(?)

Of course, he later dropped the domain, I had repurchased it back in 2016 and held it for 2 years before my auto renewal didn’t go through and it dropped. Then someone from China bought it and now it's with some owner who had the same landing page since he purchased it years ago.
[00:45:21]

So that's why I ended up with .org vs. .net

And before that, when I met them, they used to host some IRC network for the illegal trading of drugs (research-chemicals) I think they called it. Although the owner of that side of the network/server disappeared, and went to jail, and the co-owner of that side had no access to the servers so just told us one day it'll disappear including the site.

Was a great time to learn IRC as a kid and get involved with the black market side of things lol

Interestingly, netsplit.de can’t connect and gets the same error msg as KiwiIRC when it tries, but other clients can connect fine. Odd..
[03:16:59]

No errors in the log either for the IRCd, so confusing.

But still no idea why tunix can’t connect and why it times out as registration error since it means the handshake isn’t fully going just for them
