[22:01:33] superkuh In terms of human safety we have it good because of our large cranial brow ridges that somewhat shield the eye. In mammals tissue damage from microwave heating clouds the eyes first. For rabbits it's about 1mW/cm^2 for humans it's more like 15mW/cm^2.
[22:02:43] superkuh The navy did lots of studies on this back in the 1970s for their radar safety protocols.
[22:03:46] superkuh Not in the papers I read.
[22:07:28] superkuh Page 56.
[22:09:57] superkuh Also people have trouble understanding the absolutely boggling scale of power magnitudes over which it can work and still pull out the information. And how quick power drops off away from the antenna(s).
[22:12:16] superkuh I still use a GSM (1800 MHz) Nokia 6030 cell phone.
[22:12:30] superkuh But yeah, the number of bits/hz is certainly better.
[22:14:53] superkuh People see that a cell phone still works when you put it inside a microwave and think, "Oh no! It's leaking!". But ... it's leaking 30dB down when 3dB down is half the power. Radio communications is just that good at recovering information from things with ~80dB path and spreading loss.
[22:15:37] superkuh (plus the edge seals are frequency dependent)
