[17:57:20] tjr ComputerTech: you were voted off the island
[18:15:39] tjr not nearly as much as I would have expected
[18:16:25] tjr ComputerTech: that his my home starlink internet usage
[18:16:29] tjr s/his/is/
[18:44:25] tjr Yes, until they light up fiber on my road
[18:44:56] tjr probably convert it to roam and pause it
[18:45:01] tjr for backup
[18:45:28] tjr plug it into ETH2 on my UXG-Pro then I can swap over easily if I ever need to
[18:46:54] tjr jmjl: it has a SFP port and a ethernet port for wan
[18:47:09] tjr so I can plug the ONT into the SFP port and the starlink into the ethernet port
[18:47:32] tjr yes
[18:47:40] tjr ONT == fiber “modem"
[18:49:10] tjr jmjl: technically, yes but I won’t leave my starlink active anyways, I will pause it and unpause if ever needed
[18:49:37] tjr in order to do proper bonding, I would likely need a business connection with 2 fiber lines which isn’t worth it for home
[18:50:33] tjr pretty sure the UXG doesn’t do bonding like that anyways, it offers failover and load balancing
[18:50:38] tjr but not actual bonding capabilities
[18:53:58] tjr jmjl: pretty sure you would either need an ASN or you would need the ISP would need to bond the lines for you if you don’t have an ASN, if you are using 2 seperate companies you would need an ASN afaik
[18:54:11] tjr ^
[18:54:58] tjr Yeah if you are using two seperate ISPs
[18:55:04] tjr you would likely need to use BGP
[18:56:09] tjr Yeah, no need for multiple ASNs really unless you have a specific need for them
[18:57:18] tjr ComputerTech: then get it, it probably is pretty available where you are
[18:57:46] tjr jmjl: yes, absolutely no resedential ISP will give you the ability to announce like that
[18:59:11] tjr jmjl: pretty sure the IP block was BGP hijacked the last time
[18:59:40] tjr basically, someone announced a IP block that they had no business doing
[19:00:54] tjr it is possible if prefix filtering isn’t correctly done
[19:01:16] tjr oh, and RPKI adoption
[19:03:26] tjr jmjl: yeah, the basic concept is that anything upstream of you can route whatever ip they want where they want, that applies to both local networks as well as the internet
[19:04:03] tjr so your router gets it’s route tables upstream, it can basically override the correct route table saying that 8.8.8.8 goes to china or somewhere on your lan instead of google
[19:08:27] tjr you ideally don’t want to use anything outside of what RFC1918 specifies for LAN use, you can/will run into collisions at some point. some people will use RFC6598 space for example for VPN setups which can possibly cause issues if you have a client/mobile device sitting behind CGNAT
[19:09:56] tjr BGP is archaic which is why we see the issues we do
[19:13:37] tjr I don’t think BGP will be replaced in any reasonable time because it would literally require everyone to switch or you will have a broken internet, so I don’t think it is realistic. I think we are trying to patch the issues with BGP the best we can (RPKI for example). we sadly can’t even get full adoption for IPv6 ;\
[19:15:17] tjr jmjl: I am on a macbook pro, it should be standard
[19:17:40] tjr jmjl: ’ is U+00E2 LATIN SMALL LETTER A WITH CIRCUMFLEX
[19:17:53] tjr ‘ is U+0027 APOSTROPHE character
[19:22:56] tjr ComputerTech: find me hardware to use for a iscsi zfs storage server plz
[21:47:59] tjr spam
[21:48:01] tjr xcess flood
