[04:18:05] + Null_Anonymous Hey you
[04:18:43] + Null_Anonymous Well, I went to labor school for a week.
[04:18:52] + Null_Anonymous That was fun
[04:19:25] + Null_Anonymous A decent amount of stuff was rehashed, but they had some new material.
[04:19:32] + Null_Anonymous Uh... Not exactly.
[04:19:40] + Null_Anonymous More like union education.
[04:20:01] + Null_Anonymous o7
[04:20:58] + Null_Anonymous So, anyway, yeah. It was a good experience. A lot of networking opportunities, and I took advantage of every single one that I could.
[04:21:18] + Null_Anonymous Met a couple of the new regional directors
[04:22:11] + Null_Anonymous They are young, so it's good. We needed fresh blood in those ranks, vs the "good ol' boy" system that was in place before.
[04:23:07] + Null_Anonymous Like, these people were elected in the last six months or so.
[04:23:40] + Null_Anonymous They were on the floor six months ago, not in any position. They ran and won. It's kinda bad ass.
[04:25:26] + Null_Anonymous We have direct elections now for our overarching union officers, versus before they were elected at convention.
[04:25:54] + Null_Anonymous So, it was a given that certain people were going to get the job.
[04:26:00] + Null_Anonymous Heelo
[04:32:33] + Null_Anonymous !bang
[04:32:37] + Null_Anonymous !reload
[04:32:39] + Null_Anonymous !bang
[04:33:02] + Null_Anonymous So, how is everyone?
[04:34:28] + Null_Anonymous Aaaaand, ComputerTech *may* reset it.
[04:34:54] + Null_Anonymous Idk. He does that periodically?
[04:35:19] + Null_Anonymous Like I said, "periodically"
[04:35:36] + Null_Anonymous Like, whenever he chooses.
[04:35:42] + Null_Anonymous Or gets a whim.
[04:36:51] + Null_Anonymous ComputerTech!
[04:36:57] + Null_Anonymous Appear!
[04:37:02] + Null_Anonymous Maybe?
[04:37:33] + Null_Anonymous He was *just* here.
[04:37:43] + Null_Anonymous Like, not even 10 minutes ago.
[04:38:08] + Null_Anonymous But, it is like 5 am for him.
[04:38:57] + Null_Anonymous At work atm.
[04:39:10] + Null_Anonymous For another couple hours.
[04:39:18] + Null_Anonymous I am an autoworker.
[04:39:20] + Null_Anonymous .w
[04:39:44] + Null_Anonymous Like manufacturer.
[04:40:02] + Null_Anonymous I work for one of the Big 3
[04:40:15] + Null_Anonymous I won't get too specific
[04:40:29] + Null_Anonymous But, I work in the Detroit metro area at one of them.
[04:41:07] + Null_Anonymous Currently, it isn't too bad.
[04:41:22] + Null_Anonymous 56 days of our contract left.
[04:41:31] + Null_Anonymous Then, we see what happens.
[04:41:50] + Null_Anonymous Maybe I keep working, maybe we walk out. Not sure yet.
[04:42:25] + Null_Anonymous The line is slow tonight.
[04:42:58] + Null_Anonymous I won't specify my job exactly, except to say that I am a unionized autoworker.
[04:43:04] + Null_Anonymous !bang
[04:43:06] + Null_Anonymous !bang
[04:43:13] + Null_Anonymous Wee!
[04:45:19] + Null_Anonymous We have a contract with the company, that contract is called a Collective Bargaining Agreement
[04:45:37] + Null_Anonymous Ours expires in 56 days.
[04:46:24] + Null_Anonymous When it does, our "no-strike" clause expires with it.
[04:46:41] + Null_Anonymous No.
[04:47:13] + Null_Anonymous We are directly employed by the company. The contract specifies the terms of our pay, benefits, and working conditions.
[04:47:59] + Null_Anonymous We do what they tell us, so long as our contract is in force and effect. We are negotiating a new one because the current one expires soon.
[04:48:56] + Null_Anonymous However, the company is resistant to our demands, so we may strike. They've been VERY profitable. We want things. They don't want to give us things.
[04:49:54] + Null_Anonymous To convince them to give us things, we may withhold our labor if negotiations drag out beyond the expiration of our current contract.
[04:50:05] + Null_Anonymous There are too many of us.
[04:50:26] + Null_Anonymous We have roughly 50,000 people under this contract.
[04:50:39] + Null_Anonymous Give or take.
[04:50:46] + Null_Anonymous So, good luck.
[04:51:00] + Null_Anonymous Also, if people cross the picket line... It isn't a good time.
[04:51:16] + Null_Anonymous Oh yes. The contract affects us all equally.
[04:51:52] + Null_Anonymous Well, watch the news. Middle of September.
[04:57:09] + Null_Anonymous For some, yes. For some no. We want some of the bigger things we gave up years ago back.
[04:58:24] + Null_Anonymous Defined benefit pensions, Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA), post retirement healthcare, job security. Those are the big demands.
[04:58:55] + Null_Anonymous We want everyone to be treated the same in regards to pay and benefits.
[04:59:32] + Null_Anonymous Currently, you have people that can never get certain things that others have, and we want an end to that.
[05:04:19] + Null_Anonymous We also want general pay increases, because successful company is successful because of our labor.
[05:13:25] + Null_Anonymous Glarg
[05:57:07] + Null_Anonymous You're irrelevant!
[05:57:27] + Null_Anonymous Anyway
[07:36:11] + Null_Anonymous !bang
