[15:26:49] miep tinka, she's great! last june she moved in with wilma who has severe ptsd, and around november wilma got my phone number and we've been texting :)

[15:27:05] miep this or next month wilma will invite me over to meet her and see how tinka's been doing

[15:27:21] miep it's only allowed at least 6 months after the dog moved in to make it less stressful on everyone

[15:28:14] miep tinka's doing her job beyond expectations. there's always certain limits and rules the training schools impose to make sure it's fair and reasonable for the dog. a lot of the work also depends on the dog's personality, but it turns out tinka fits perfectly in the job she's given

[15:29:01] miep so she was taught to recognize when wilma has nightmares and to wake her up and spoon with her. she does that perfectly, and she is actually happy to lay in bed with wilma for hours like this even if it gets super hot. in the past wilma couldn't get out of bed until the afternoon because the nightmares froze her body up

[15:29:14] miep but now she can get out of bed in the morning because tinka's heat and fur makes her comfortable and relaxed

[15:30:38] miep in the past wilma's husband had to cuddle her to help her wake up in the morning but obviously he can't do that every single day because he probably works or has stuff to do. so now the routine is that he just gets out of bed in the morning and feeds tinka and lets her outside to pee and stuff

[15:31:14] miep the initial expectation was that tinka would only cuddle wilma when wilma was in the middle of her bad nightmares, but tinka decided on her own accord that she loves cuddling with wilma so much that after the husband lets her out and feeds her, she just jumps straight bnack into bed and it's more than she could ever have wished for

[15:31:39] miep it wasn't fair to expect it but tinka decided that's her preference so it's perfect for everyone

[15:32:17] miep other things tinka does is she will headbump wilma's hands during panic attacks on walks, she can do this on and off leash perfectly. they thought she wouldn't be able to do it off leash because she may be too far away playing to notice the panic attacks but nope she runs straight back and notices it immediately

[15:32:35] miep which is insane because on the outside all you can see during the panic attack is that her pace slows down and she balls her hand into a fist that's all tinka needs to know

[15:32:56] miep since she was already perfect within the first few weeks she will only get better at noticing these things

[15:33:25] miep yeah but since she is allowed to play with other dogs when off leash it wasn't fair to assume she'd be able to do that off leash, so they agreed that wilam would need to use a vocal command in that case, but nope not needed at all

[15:34:09] miep and the third important task tinka learned is that she can be told a specific place to stay at the end of the leash and stand there without moving, so when wilma is panicy in public she can tell tinka to make some space so people can't get so close

[15:34:24] miep and during training tinka was able to do this without issues in the supermarket even when people leaned over her or tried to push her away she woudln't budge

[15:35:16] miep yeah like when i found out tinka was going to be with someone with ptsd i was so happy, i hoped she'd go ptsd or epilepsy because i know she's super super sensitive and would notice those things

[15:35:51] miep whenever i'd be on the couch on my phone tinka would know the minute i would think about something stressful or read an annoying text, she immediately runs up to me and nuzzles me

[15:36:45] miep no but as you can tell i love her to bits and get way too excited talking about her everytime

[15:37:02] miep it was easy to let go, but it was weird to realize how much she was part of my life

[15:37:33] miep like she overstayed her welcome for a year because of allergies we needed to figure out, and she was done learning her puppy bits so i started teaching her illegal commands (with permission from my trainer)

[15:38:07] miep so in the mornings before walks tinka would retrieve me my shoes, if i was on the couch or on bed (you can see tv from both the couch or the bed in my small studio) i'd ask her to get me my remote control, in the morning she'd hand me my plushies so we made the bed together

[15:38:25] miep and obviously i hate leaving the house so she was a big reason i left the house and now i don't lol

[15:38:59] miep the funniest bit was that my work is striaght across from my house, so it's a 5 minute walk and i had to detour to work so she actually had time to pee and poop XD that was funny

[15:39:16] miep yeah true, tinka didn't like the panties she kept chewing them off

[15:39:22] miep but she's sterilized now she only had a period once

[15:39:53] miep the periods impact their behaviour and makes it harder to take them outside so the dogs have to be sterilized to be able to work properly yearround

[15:40:21] miep ablebodied people have an easier time to change their routine to account for the periods, but like the dogs help their owners take off their socks and jackets, you can't expect the owners to put panties on the dogs lol

[15:40:36] miep not in wilma's case, but the school also trains for people in wheelchairs

[15:41:05] miep yeah i get really excited about it, before i started this all i knew next to nothing about service dogs and now i'm a hardcore stan

[15:49:58] miep my friend has 1 "ok" eye and 1 extremely bad eye, and she would probably be rejected if she had to take another driving or eye test, but she can do most things even tennis and basketball with 0 depth perception

[16:13:22] miep i work in customer support for a dutch software company and we are expanding to UK and germany now, we have 3 german customers and right now they don't call our helpdesk yet they only call with our german speaking coworkers but i'd love to one day offer to pick up german phone calls too
