[08:52:56] ski that ban won't be effective, if they identify
[09:47:48] ski /mode #gk b
[09:48:05] ski gives me a whole bunch of bans
[11:35:19] ski good to hear
[11:35:27] ski (talked to doctor ?)
[11:38:16] ski Frogorg : physical issue, i presume
[11:42:42] ski mhm (do continue, if you will, Frogorg)
[11:43:02] ski why "bordeu" ?
[11:44:08] ski ritalin ?
[11:44:19] ski mhm
[11:46:42] ski (only found out, many years later, that it's the name of a prescription drug thing)
[11:48:12] ski so, you're going to try strattera, first ?
[11:49:53] ski how long until you can start try taking it ?
[11:51:24] ski hm, so maybe next week, if that works ?
[11:56:50] ski when did the game come out ?
[12:01:56] ski (i guess it's kinda like SimCity ..)
[19:44:11] ski .. for the last couple of days, for whatever reason, only a few messages from server arrived here, mostly quits, so that the place appeared desolated. reconnecting didn't seem to help, starting a new client process didn't help. earlier today, after reconnecting, it suddenly seemed to work fine again, though
[19:47:21] ski a whole bunch of quits also appeared in server window, rather than in channel, presumably because the client never saw the corresponding join
[19:47:53] ski may possibly also have affected other channels, but i'm not in that many, and they're not as high-volume as this one ..
[19:49:06] ski (hm, and i checked which servers i had been connected to, and there was two different ones, dropping messages appeared to happen with both, not just one)
[19:50:34] ski (after a while, after being connected with a second client, and being reconnected a few times, i could notice a difference in the view in the two clients, and conclude for sure that messages were dropped .. whether that would be in client, because of bug there, or on the server side)
[20:05:50] ski Mikoolo : well, the problem was that the client, for whatever reason, didn't properly display messages (JOINs, QUITs, PARTs, NICKs, PRIVMSGs, ..) from the server .. judging from what h4 said, it sounds like it may've been a server/network problem
[20:08:14] ski Irssi
[20:09:17] ski what's "nein" in polish ?
[20:10:15] ski luft balloons
[20:10:45] ski quatre-vingt-dis-neuf
[20:10:56] ski .t quatre-vingt-dis-neuf
[20:12:20] ski .t ik gaar niet
[20:12:46] ski test failed
[20:13:57] ski if that happens, sure
[20:14:14] ski hm .. i long ago chatted with a basti, but never in here
[20:14:44] ski hello mistuba_takanashi
[20:15:01] ski konnichiwa
[20:15:29] ski (has been on IRC for close to twentythree years)
[20:15:45] ski how did that happen, mistuba_takanashi ?
[20:18:46] ski mistuba_takanashi : do note there's a lot of banter, in here. different channels feel different. it's generally a good idea to lay a bit low, after joining a new IRC channel, to survey the lay of the land, the customs of the regulars
[20:21:04] ski mistuba_takanashi : oh, and it's not IRC custom to adorn nicknames with sigils (like `@'), when referring to, or addressing people. simply mention their nickname (many clients allow you to complete it, if you type the first few characters, and then the `<Tab>' key). to address, it's common to start the message with the nickname, then a comma or a colon, and the bulk of the message
[20:21:53] ski mistuba_takanashi : many IRC clients will highlight/alert their user, if their nickname occurs *first* thing in a message (so no `@' before it). not as many will do it, if it occurs later. besides, `@' already means something else on IRC (channel operator)
[20:22:22] ski that's fine, yes
[20:23:11] ski mistuba_takanashi : oh, and since you're new to IRC, i suppose i should also mention a few other things newcomers often miss ..
[20:24:56] ski mistuba_takanashi : .. first thing, IRC is not IM (Instant Messaging). sometimes it's synchronous, more or less immediate, sometimes it's more asynchronous (with responses maybe a long time after a message). if i had a penny for every time someone asked a question that i could help with, but actually couldn't, because they left before i noticed the question, say twenty minutes, or two hours, or two
[20:25:02] ski days, later ..
[20:26:09] ski mistuba_takanashi : many people on IRC stay connected for a long time, even when they're busy with other things, work, eating, watching a film, going outside, even sleeping. you can't expect immediate responses always. i'd suggest to wait at *least* half an hour after announcing your presence in a channel
[20:29:10] ski mistuba_takanashi : also, fwiw, on technical (topic) channels, rather than general social channels, people also are often loathe to announce their presence, before they feel reasonably sure that they can contribute usefully. for that reason, in such channels, it's recommended to "Don't ask to ask, just ask your question.", not asking "anyone here ?" or "does anyone know about [..] ?" (which will often
[20:29:16] ski just be met with silence), so in such places, it's good to be upfront about what one's tried already, what is the specifics of the issue or query. also, often people don't bother to greet (but it's not bad, if you want to. just don't expect everyone to want to respond, unless there's an actual question)
[20:29:52] ski h4 : BG3 is good ?
[20:30:44] ski Mikoolo : yea, i think that's more or less the intro i had in mind. especially the "don't leave after just five minutes" thing is something newcomers to IRC stumble upon, though
[20:32:08] ski (oh, and i didn't copy&paste, heh .. i just type it out, from memory, slightly different each time)
[20:32:44] ski foxy : could you grow tomatos ?
[20:32:56] ski heya deadly
[20:33:18] ski i mean, for long-term, foxy
[20:33:32] ski hm, i see, Mikoolo
[20:34:01] ski greenhouse ?
[20:34:25] ski hm, balcony ?
[20:36:01] ski mrinfinity : what's "mushroom soil" ?
[20:37:29] ski bonjour
[20:38:58] ski tea doesn't really make me alert much that i've noticed. can drink it late evening, and still sleep well. i like it still, though
[20:39:44] ski lurker36 : hm, can't find it from #ELiTEWAREZ ?
[20:42:57] ski a standalone client, not a webchat (browser based) client
[20:43:10] ski Mikoolo : guess that works, too
[20:43:37] ski HexChat is probably okay
[20:43:44] ski there are also clients for mobiles
[20:45:05] ski mistuba_takanashi : if you're not used to using a terminal, then a terminal-based client would be harder to get into, yes
[20:46:04] ski Frogorg : i've had <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyttipanna> as breakfast
[20:47:15] ski well, i fried both sides of the egg. only briefly on the other side, though, to not completely make the yolk become solid
[20:48:32] ski sometimes i've added cheese to the mix in the pan
[20:50:06] ski <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Jacob> is also pretty nice, although more work. casserole with chicken, cream, chilli, bananas, peanuts, bacon, served with rice and salad
[20:50:21] ski heh :p
[20:51:35] ski thyme ?
[20:52:33] ski replacing fish with ?
[21:00:47] ski mistuba_takanashi : have fun
[21:02:10] ski IRC doesn't have any (artificial) notion of "friend"
[21:02:33] ski just chat with people, maybe try to get along at least somewhat, have fun, learn things, &c.
[21:04:25] ski i'm sure there are many people who consider each other friends on IRC, but that's something that grows organically, over time, and usually doesn't have to be spelled out
[21:05:19] ski sure it is
[21:05:29] ski just as mailing lists, and Usenet newsgroups are
[21:06:01] ski (it's not the current sleuth of "modern social media" though, sure ..)
[21:12:07] ski didn't they have edible wallpaper glue ?
[21:12:45] ski good night, pleasant dreams
[21:16:33] ski iirc, people substituted it for powder sugar, in bakeries, because it was cheaper, before food regulations. not good for health, though
[21:17:02] ski a lot of horror stories from before food regulations
[21:17:23] ski people coloring spoiled meat, to make it appear fresh, &c.
[21:17:55] ski nini
[21:20:21] ski hm, only gone an hour, CT
[21:23:02] ski savory or sugary snacks ?
[21:23:44] ski sounds nice :b
[21:23:51] ski (assuming the chilli wasn't too hot)
[21:24:39] ski "cheese butter" sandwich, made how ?
[21:25:44] ski i was wondering if the cheese was maybe fried, and then the fat from that poured onto sandwich
[21:26:09] ski sorry to hear, End3r :(
[21:26:37] ski hm .. i guess it could be, didn't think of that
[22:17:59] ski it's english
[22:18:50] ski means, the back part of a ship, or in the direction of it
[22:19:34] ski it's a nice sounding word
[23:38:16] ski g'night, Mikoolo, pleasant dreams
