[04:32:12] norex ERP
[04:32:23] norex like enterprise resource stuff
[04:32:26] norex SAP etc?
[04:33:13] norex Perhaps. First off, why the fuck do you care if something like that is open source?
[04:34:05] norex You're using it to run a business, not a charity and if you actually need ERP and not quickbooks you're doing reasonably well.
[04:35:00] norex srry. That didn't make too much sense.
[04:35:27] norex If you're a 'small business', you don't have anything to gain from an ERP system.
[04:35:59] norex If you aren't, then you pay for something that has a support contract, at which point who cares if it is open source. They will have an API.
[04:36:33] norex Also, your ERP system has to generate documents for auditors. You will be held legally responsible for these documents.
[04:37:15] norex If you're undergoing an audit, you don't want to fall back on 'I swear this isn't fraudulent, I just fucked up my DIY ERP system and that is why these financials are all wrong'
[04:37:19] norex anyway.
[04:37:21] norex srry
[04:38:01] norex There are some GNU efforts, but I don't remember exactly what they are. You can search engine/llm
[04:38:42] norex Yes, people develop extensions ('customizations') for ERP systems all the time.
[04:39:31] norex anyway. If you're real small, do your basic financials in quickbooks and then write the rest in python
[04:39:54] norex Like the logic than handles orders in your manufacturing room or whatever.
[04:40:26] norex quickbooks for financials, python for inventory and order management.
[04:41:03] norex You don't need to.
[04:41:17] norex Why do you need super custom accounting?
[04:43:05] norex quickbooks should sit on top of SQL. I haven't developed for it myself, but with the right version you should be able to query the data underneath your install via ODBC driver.
[04:43:59] norex That lets you get order information out of your financial database and then do practical things with it like pull inventory, schedule physical tasks related to the order etc.
[04:44:54] norex And no, I deal with larger ERP systems.
[04:45:06] norex You'll sort it out I'm sure.
[04:45:40] norex This is starting to sound like a tech channel. We only shoot ducks here.
[04:45:46] norex imma get banned if I keep this up.
[04:46:07] norex !reloaf

[04:51:05] norex VAT is standard accounting practice if you've making something. You should just add the necessary percentage on to the final sale price and then reserve some of the sale to pay the tax.
[04:51:25] norex Should be part of quickbooks since the core of the program is a ledger.
[04:51:42] norex You pay people for stuff, then do *things* and sell the result.
[04:52:18] norex I know that isn't super specific, but it shouldn't require a customization.
[04:52:53] norex and, VAT percent shouldn't change based on something quickbooks doesn't easily do (like keep track of manufacturing processes)
