[20:34:50] ab by the way, I did find out how to recover a faulty zip file - maybe it wasn't here I was asking, I don't know. it turns out that the answer is WinRAR. a lot of websites and programs claim they can do it but can't, it did it straight off, even as a free trial and running under Wine. huge relief.

[21:07:28] ab I'm using Linux, and 7zip didn't seem to want to install on Linux - maybe it's possible, but, if so, I couldn't see how in a hurry.
