[05:02:48] Nimko Hey guys since you all have been on the internet a lot longer than I have what ways do people usually end up getting doxxed on the internet? I know people can look up your IP but what exactly do they do to figure out where you live and stuff?
[05:05:17] Nimko Huh
[05:05:38] Nimko interesting I see
[05:05:50] Nimko I always thought it was like a data breach thing
[05:06:20] Nimko like they find your ip or email in a databreach
[05:07:46] Nimko So would the best course of action would be to keep the information you use to interact with people limited?
[05:08:33] Nimko Like any social media you enjoy you use a new and specific email/password/username
[05:08:39] Nimko *use
[05:09:08] Nimko ugh *Like any social media you use to interact with people
[05:10:13] Nimko You have known anyone who was doxxed before?
[05:10:43] Nimko I know this IRC so I'd think there would be a lot of old internet drama and hacking on this older networks I guess
[05:13:41] Nimko I see. places Facebook seems to invasive even to me
[05:14:44] Nimko In order to have an account they actually have to verify your identity which is kinda extreme to me to be honest
[05:15:31] Nimko but I guess connecting to real people is the point of it I guess
[05:19:31] Nimko yeah definitely seems that way lol
[05:19:51] Nimko thanks
[05:19:58] Nimko goodnight NiniGeo2
[05:29:16] Nimko tr_ What about it?
[05:29:28] Nimko Isn't it just for people looking for jobs?
[05:29:41] Nimko ohhhh
[05:30:05] Nimko you post where you work and stuff yeah that's bad lol
[06:14:01] Nimko oh
[06:14:08] Nimko weird
[06:14:48] Nimko are people with your ips able to tell what websites you've visitied?
[06:15:03] Nimko like where your IP has been
[06:16:51] Nimko hmmm
[06:18:11] Nimko ohhh okay I see what HTTPS and TLS is supposed to do know
[06:18:25] Nimko the S part is to mean that it secure for your DNS right?
[06:18:35] Nimko or something like
[06:19:05] Nimko I've been to websites where my browser would warn me that it doesn't use HTTPS but just HTTP
[06:19:41] Nimko So where exactly does the danger of that come in?
[06:20:04] Nimko isn't the hosters of the website able to see everything already?
[06:22:51] Nimko so if someone had my IP and just so happened to know what website I've been on and that website also had happend to not be secure with HTTPS, they would be able to see what I did on there?
[06:25:55] Nimko I also heard that with IPs they can do something(?) with the ports and get access? tr_
[06:26:11] Nimko sorry my client only gives tr_
[06:27:52] Nimko ohh I see
[06:28:18] Nimko Yeah lots of zoom bombing in 2020 and 2021 lol
[06:28:20] Nimko but
[06:29:33] Nimko ohhhh yeah isn't what they call remote code execution? tr_
[06:31:45] Nimko hrmm would the best course of action be to get a specific router that isn't just the standard one by the ISP and get those open source firewalls softwares on Github?
[06:31:51] Nimko tr_ yeah true
[06:32:13] Nimko I never had much of a presence on the internet
[06:32:25] Nimko Pi hole?
[06:33:06] Nimko O_o I thought a firewall was just software on the router already or something like that
[06:33:42] Nimko ohhhhhhh sorry I'm being stupid
[06:33:50] Nimko like Windows Firewall
[06:33:55] Nimko right
[06:35:41] Nimko hmmm so what could you do with multiple firewalls together? tr_
[06:37:30] Nimko So your normal router isn't the end all be all? if someone gets past your router's firewall wouldn't don't they kinda have everything?
[06:37:58] Nimko like since its connects to your computer and everything else
[06:43:48] Nimko I see interesting
[06:43:59] Nimko what would a pi-hole do?
[06:44:08] Nimko well prevent I guess
[06:45:05] Nimko Ah i see now
[06:45:40] Nimko Your computer wouldn't be connected to the router but to the pi-hole
[06:46:09] Nimko so if they got past your router firewall it would be the pi-hole's turn
[06:50:00] Nimko is there a solution to it?
[06:50:55] Nimko ah sorry I read your post wrong lol
[06:51:29] Nimko so I SHOULD get a another router rather than my ISPs standard ones
[06:54:26] Nimko wow
[06:55:33] Nimko hm if I ever decided to get fiber optic plans from my ISP does that changes things?
[06:56:19] Nimko I feel it may not but I'm just curious because I thought about getting them one day
[07:01:43] Nimko O_o woah
[07:02:23] Nimko I assumed it was just faster connection that required some physical installation cause the cables are different and whatever
[07:03:59] Nimko so firewalls and pi-holes would be even more difficult? Are most ISPs known to lock things down so much (outside of censorship)?
