[17:54:27] + mlu de-facto: it's not practical to do a VM without "hardware extensions" -- thankfully, those hardware extensions have been standard since ~2014 or so
[17:55:22] + mlu I think he's referring to Linux KVM
[17:55:49] + mlu it's the VM module in Linux
[18:04:53] + mlu yup
[18:06:12] + mlu the hardware extensions mostly deal with context switching / isolation so that the VM'ing can happen without rewriting memory addresses, etc.
[18:14:36] + mlu nested KVM :D
[18:16:52] + mlu things are really kneecapped if the hardware extensions aren't enabled inside the guest
[18:17:24] + mlu IIRC, without the extensions, you're looking at a ~20% overhead
[18:18:17] + mlu now the question of how to get the patched kernel in there
[18:35:13] + mlu brothchild: hmm, what happens in your simulator when stars collide?
[18:35:41] + mlu to me, the gravity waves simulation seems clean: you figure out the field and then apply the field to all the objects
