[02:33:36] ski/rizon CT's likely asleep, i'd guess
[02:33:45] ski/rizon bonsoir, sushi-chan
[02:34:05] ski/rizon how're ya ?
[02:36:07] ski/rizon mhm ?
[02:37:53] ski/rizon nah, math is much better a drug
[02:38:29] ski/rizon ouch, sushi-chan :(
[02:40:21] ski/rizon i've heard some other people talk about a test like that, and saying what you had to drink was real foul ..
[02:42:10] ski/rizon they ought to be clear about such things, and not just assume that patients will know
[02:43:22] ski/rizon (which is more than usual, for me)
[02:43:33] ski/rizon hallo, toni, wie gehts ?
[02:44:01] ski/rizon so lange ?
[02:44:20] ski/rizon perhaps you should first tell what you seek assitance for, toni
[02:44:38] ski/rizon we'll make a fine logician out of you yet, sushi-chan :D
[02:46:32] ski/rizon insult words ?
[02:47:51] ski/rizon some cultures use more religious insults, some more sexual, some more scatological. presumably there's some more categories, as well
[02:49:29] ski/rizon toni : do you have "arschgeige","lackaffe","kotzbrocken","fickfehler" recorded, for german ?
[02:49:48] ski/rizon noun
[02:50:01] ski/rizon "Substantiv" is "noun"
[02:51:22] ski/rizon (yes, sixty)
[02:52:05] ski/rizon hm, i yesterday saw some clip with someone who thought "schauer" in german meant "shower"
[02:54:31] ski/rizon my mum says that french people are "experts at insulting with finesse", so that you often don't realize until hours later that something was an insult
[02:54:50] ski/rizon i'm sure that only covers some aspects of french insulting practice, though
[02:55:09] ski/rizon but presumably not french insults, CoolKevin
[02:55:14] ski/rizon (pardon my french)
[02:55:31] ski/rizon (pardon moi français ?)
[02:56:54] ski/rizon some people are probably more natural at it (more talent) .. and some have better backgrounds with wider exposure
[02:58:16] ski/rizon i assume you're not allowed to eat (and drink ?) anything, for hours, too, sushi-chan ?
[03:00:28] ski/rizon (i distinctively remember a kid's cartoon show, with pirate ships, in which there was a french woman captain, who screamed "Revenge!", with french accent, after another ship who took their treasure)
[03:02:14] ski/rizon well, french farmers protesting, blocking the streets with their tractors, is kinda romantic, no ? ;)
[03:02:37] ski/rizon or dumping manure in front of the major's building, or something
[03:03:12] ski/rizon you do seem quite strike happy, as a nation, in general
[03:04:09] ski/rizon well, sometimes japanese bosses jump from buildings, when things go south with the company
[03:04:58] ski/rizon presumably it's some kind of cultural remainder of a similar kind of expression as samurai seppuko, way of the sword honour, or however it's called
[03:05:15] ski/rizon (probably something with "budo" .. i don't recall)
[03:06:13] ski/rizon i've heard westerners interacting with japanese, in businesses, may have trouble with japanese saying "yes", when they mean "no"
[03:06:43] ski/rizon even their Yakuza help keep some control on petty crime, from what i understand
[03:07:11] ski/rizon (iirc, after world war II, they were given some responsibilities, at least for a time)
[03:07:45] ski/rizon like you could leave your suitcase somewhere, and come back hours later, and it'd likely still be there
[03:08:21] ski/rizon .. i wonder how common it is with japanese-french couples
[03:10:07] ski/rizon .. i remember seeing some japanese drama-documentary, about an older married couple, in Japan, deciding to visiting their child (i think daughter, but may have been son, can't recall), and their family, in the city .. but they not really having much time or too much interest in doing things together with them, engaging them
[03:10:55] ski/rizon sortof a beautiful, pensive, film. they also went to a japanese hot springs place (maybe Onsen ?), for a while
[03:11:33] ski/rizon yes, sushi-chan. but i think that's also not the whole story
[03:13:21] ski/rizon i heard from Gab Smolders (a YouTuber, who plays games), that when she lived in Japan for a few years (she's a huga Japan fan), that one time, when she went to the medical doctor, for some examination, she had to ask for quite some time, before the doctor admitted that he didn't really have the expertise to judge her specific symptoms, that she'd have to be referred to another one
[03:15:05] ski/rizon that japanese people are so intent on being polite, and saving face, and not unduly causing others to lose face, that they're very attentive to such subtle signs, and so more easily pick up on what is actually meant, while e.g. westerners would be more oblivious to such things, trying to understand from what was directly said, not managing to read between the lines so well, and so often req
[03:15:11] ski/rizon explicit spelling out, to the embarressment for both parties
[03:16:53] ski/rizon it's interesting how women's vote was partially a consequence of the first world war
[03:17:54] ski/rizon personally, i can more understand and empathize with the reserved, polite, nature of their way of engaging with each other, generally speaking
[03:18:31] ski/rizon yes, i did, sushi-chan. and i do think you're most likely right (i haven't studied Japanese, but i have no reason to doubt you about that)
[03:18:55] ski/rizon (i just wanted to add that i think that's not the full picture, that the general temperament also plays into it)
[03:19:30] ski/rizon hm .. that reminds me about basque
[03:21:05] ski/rizon "delicate and polite" -- that is an art in itself. art of subtility, attention to detail, complex situation management and representation, high level of emotional awareness, negotiation and diplomacy, &c.
[03:21:31] ski/rizon one should not be surprised that japanese have elaborate rituals for serving tea
[03:22:18] ski/rizon or the cultural importance of the Geisha (e.g. the classical Monogatari Genji)
[03:23:25] ski/rizon heh, we tend to stand patiently in lines/queues a lot around "up" here, as well :)
[03:23:43] ski/rizon (although i think the japanese are probably our masters, still, in this regard)
[03:24:45] ski/rizon here cars commonly stop for the red light, in cities, even when there's no traffic at all on the crossing road
[03:25:22] ski/rizon sometimes when i bike around, i have to wave to cars to insist they pass in front of me, before i cross the road
[03:25:45] ski/rizon (sometimes i instead pretend i'm going elsewhere, until they've passed)
[03:28:36] ski/rizon hm, also on trains, trams, buses, people will automatically spread out, mostly as far away from each other as possible (not wanting to be rude and infringing upon another's personal space more than necessary. especially not opening a conversation with someone they don't know, unless there's a clear need to (like ask for directions))
[03:29:45] ski/rizon wouldn't that make your hair more blackish brown ?
[03:30:40] ski/rizon (hm, not sure how water-stable soy coloring of hair would actually be ..)
[03:31:13] ski/rizon well, you got it, Kowal
[03:31:41] ski/rizon (no need to be trigger happy, after that)
[03:32:17] ski/rizon you don't like sorbet, Ahsoka ?
[03:35:42] ski/rizon in Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time", there's this people, the Seanchan. they pretty obviously have some far east asian inspirations. one of the things they do is they talk about "Sei'taer" ("True Eyes") and "Sei'moisev" ("Lowered Eyes"). referring to keeping face (or having honorable intentions, &c.), or losing face (being embarrassed, being regarded as having broken rules, &c.)
[03:38:15] ski/rizon (iirc, there's also a word "sausicon" (i'm probably misspelling it))
[03:38:52] ski/rizon well, i hope it goes well, sushi-chan
[03:39:40] ski/rizon if not, you should complain that they didn't tell you in advance
[18:28:01] ski/rizon jeff_stacey : what's a "mogwai" ?
[18:28:39] ski/rizon i only know the word as a certain member of a demoscene group
[18:28:43] ski/rizon i see
[18:29:02] ski/rizon (ty)
[20:04:22] ski/rizon sorry to hear, Velociraptor :/
[20:04:54] ski/rizon do you get pain in bones as well ?
[20:55:50] ski/rizon wood hammer ? like the head made of wood, or it meant for working with wood, or ?
[21:00:40] ski/rizon .. might also be a mobile client, disconnecting when put in the background ?
