[21:24:45] ski/rizon you know, occasionally, people wake up from it, during the procedure, but they're still paralyzed, so they can't move (and can't indicate to surgeons that they're awake)

[21:27:53] ski/rizon (.. well, there's also local anaesthesia, where the person who's operated on doesn't go unconscious, just can't feel anything in the part that's going to be operated on. i think this is especially used with brain surgery, so that surgeons can ask the patient stuff, to check that they're not damaging important areas)

[21:32:01] ski/rizon well, sometimes i sit in a weird way, causing a limb to go (more or less( numb

[21:32:59] ski/rizon i remember once, on a bus, i managed to sit so my leg got numb (i didn't notice). then when i was about to disembark, i couldn't feel my foot touching the ground. i almost lost balance and fell .. but managed to exit the bus successfully

[21:33:34] ski/rizon (often it also feels like "thousand needles" in the limb, when that happens)

[21:34:26] ski/rizon (when i've slept on my arm, so it becomes a bit numb, i often feel ache in it the day after, like i've hit it and got bruised, or like i've exerted it much (like lifting), the day before)

[21:35:06] ski/rizon .. there are also people who feel like their arm (or something) isn't theirs, and want to cut it off, amputate it

[21:36:58] ski/rizon i remember reading about an experiment where the patient person had one of their two arms on the table, through a box, and the other under the table. the hand on the table stuck out on the other side of the box. also, a fake hand (looking like their other hand) stuck out of the box as well, beside their hand

[21:37:51] ski/rizon the experimenter used two brushes, to simultaneously brush both the real and the fake hand, for a while. then, without warning, took out a hammer, and gave the fake hand a good whack with it

[21:38:13] ski/rizon the patient expressed it as if it felt like the fake hand was their real hand

[21:38:35] ski/rizon (i may misremember the experiment slightly, perhaps .. but it was something along those lines)
