[18:09:12] Harzilein/rizon ComputerTech be AWOL
[18:09:27] Harzilein/rizon p insult ComputerTech
[19:42:08] Harzilein/rizon :D
[19:51:13] Harzilein/rizon ComputerTech: cheers
[19:52:12] Harzilein/rizon bluetooth not working, else i'd image-bin pic of rum bottle
[19:53:01] Harzilein/rizon first instance of "deinstall lots of dependencies and their reverse dependencies to upgrade" on this laptop. still have to sort it out properly and probably do some backports.
[19:54:11] Harzilein/rizon i had a durstloescher blueberry vanilla box too today.
[19:56:19] Harzilein/rizon apt.
[19:57:26] Harzilein/rizon if you deinstall dependencies to upgrade, naturally that will violate dependencies of dependant packages so they have to go too. in debian parlance they are often called reverse dependencies. cf. apt-rdepends -r
[19:57:55] Harzilein/rizon this might result in your no longer having a bluetooth status icon
[19:58:54] Harzilein/rizon so even if there might still be some bluetooth support left installed, i can't be arsed to fix it so i have a bluetooth status icon again where i can easily make my computer visible again so any given camera phone can share its pics.
[19:59:32] Harzilein/rizon i backported lots of stuff and that may now conflict whenever i just upgrade willy-nilly. it's fine, it's all in the logs and i'll eventually figure it out.
[20:01:31] Harzilein/rizon there are not broken packages yet, _that_'s where the fun begins and you have to basically resolve everything by hand/compile by hand in the meantime if you can't solve it in one go.
[20:01:35] Harzilein/rizon no*
[20:02:46] Harzilein/rizon (with compile by hand i of course still mean source packages, no installing to /usr/local)
[20:03:33] Harzilein/rizon i make lots of references to bpo logs when such a situation arises so i know the earliest version that _actually_ satisfies some dependency.
[20:03:42] Harzilein/rizon bdo*
[20:08:26] Harzilein/rizon TaZeR: debian, but i opted into that pain by going debcheckout somepackage, cd somepackage, dpkg-checkbuilddeps, and continuing like that, i.e. getting unreleased or unstable packages that are not upgraded (or rather not not-upgraded) according to stable's schedule.
[20:09:52] Harzilein/rizon TaZeR: there is no (and there possibly can't be) any magic in the package system, it relies on careful coordination of transitions between maintainers.
[20:10:17] Harzilein/rizon s/,/ to prevent that,/
[20:11:09] Harzilein/rizon TaZeR: of course if the distro catches up at some point, everything will be someone else's problem again _at that point_
[20:12:31] Harzilein/rizon TaZeR: distros like guix/nix prevent that by making different versions of dependencies co-installable.
[20:12:53] Harzilein/rizon TaZeR: as i said, i'm fine with the system as it, the problem is limited right now.
[20:14:33] Harzilein/rizon TaZeR: stable, i.e. bullseye. it won't sort me out when i opt to use versions of packages that haven't yet migrated to a stable minor release, and won't sort me out in a long time if they are merely destined for testing.
[20:16:33] Harzilein/rizon TaZeR: with things like python packages, it's often enough to choose a build profile that doesn't build docs (this also avoids lots of circular dependencies). also i sometimes am a bad boy and opt out of tests if the part of the functionality i'm actually interested in works fine with the current set of dependencies.
[20:17:12] Harzilein/rizon (this could of course have hilarious effects on a shared machine where people use different subsets of the functionality, or i later upgrade some application)
[20:18:11] Harzilein/rizon i need no guidance, this was only "lamenting" about how i could not show ComputerTech my rum bottle. at least he won't need to reciprocate and show me his ... whatever >;)
[20:20:45] Harzilein/rizon oh, yeah, i definitely did that for the things i built at some point. i think i used the same setup mirabilos (Thorsten Glaser) uses for making a repo.
[20:21:06] Harzilein/rizon indeed that makes it easier to roll back changes like that and still return to the job later.
[20:31:32] Harzilein/rizon got new fairly high quality bamboo socks. love 'em.
[20:32:29] Harzilein/rizon they also have "socks" patterned on them. because... how would you they are socks otherwise -.-
[20:32:47] Harzilein/rizon also quite the misnomer, because a single sock would still say socks.
[20:33:05] Harzilein/rizon :)
[20:34:12] Harzilein/rizon can't be easy considerin' some of the venues that consider it their home network.
[20:35:12] Harzilein/rizon foxy: it's good that you have established a reputation of not taking no bullshit.
[20:36:04] Harzilein/rizon !meow
[20:36:19] Harzilein/rizon i was surprised myself :D
[20:36:24] Harzilein/rizon guess i rested my fingers right
[20:36:52] Harzilein/rizon yeah, left rather.
[20:37:06] Harzilein/rizon meow is so much easier than shoot.
[20:47:44] Harzilein/rizon <3 HellSpawn
[20:48:13] Harzilein/rizon HellSpawn: decided i have been grumpy long enough for the #zw-radio playlists bein' reset and will start adding things again.
[20:50:05] Harzilein/rizon getmiskon there are worse ways to pass your time i guess :D
[20:50:15] Harzilein/rizon getimiskon: there are worse ways to pass your time i guess :D
[20:50:38] Harzilein/rizon those are definitely worse indeed
[20:51:16] Harzilein/rizon yeah, have to get some sleep before heading into the acid mines again as well...
[20:51:58] Harzilein/rizon you said it's a waste of time
[20:52:55] Harzilein/rizon argh, haven't played that in a decade i think.
