[04:02:38] ski/rizon someone mentioned <https://bpa.st/3TVQ>, earlier today. the implied meaning (based on some previous discussions), was how this little story was quite similar to some of the stories told about Zen patriarchs
[04:04:10] ski/rizon yea, reading about Rhine is interesting
[04:05:47] ski/rizon well, gospels talk about "law of reaping and sowing". buddhists and hindus talk about "karma"
[04:07:03] ski/rizon KurtGodel : looks interesting, ty
[04:07:56] ski/rizon well, i guess there's an old saying, "the mills of god turn slowly"
[04:08:14] ski/rizon (iirc possibly from roman times, or older)
[04:08:37] ski/rizon yea
[04:08:55] ski/rizon nini, esjay, pleasant dreams
[04:10:39] ski/rizon mrinfinity : "trying to be very, very mindful of my ego" -- i suppose being aware of the problem is a first step
[04:11:15] ski/rizon but we can't, due to chaos theory at least
[04:12:06] ski/rizon TheFatherMind : my brother had OoBEs .. not living anywhere special, though. just read the Monroe books, and decided to try for himself
[04:13:53] ski/rizon mrinfinity : i've seen it argued that, the act of aiming at happiness, in itself makes it less likely that one'll achieve it
[04:14:01] ski/rizon (e.g. Viktor Frankl)
[04:16:02] ski/rizon (whereas, if you try to aim at more meaningful things, you'll be more likely to experience hapiness, and sometimes bliss, although certainly not all the time)
[04:17:18] ski/rizon TheFatherMind : well .. i guess that's what started me getting interested in these kinds of things .. he describing his experiences
[04:19:32] ski/rizon (who'd been educated in the tradition up in Kashmir, iirc)
[04:20:14] ski/rizon .. can well imagine that sucked badly, experiencing it again
[04:20:53] ski/rizon (i don't think i do, either, thankfully)
[04:21:43] ski/rizon (i do quite often get flashback of relatively minor faux pas i've done, though)
[04:22:10] ski/rizon mrinfinity : yes, that'd be John of the Cross
[04:23:05] ski/rizon forgiving oneself can sometimes be harder than forgiving other people
[04:27:02] ski/rizon what happened with the showers, [7666] ? if you care to talk about it
[04:27:35] ski/rizon mrinfinity : what caused it to trigger ?
[04:28:40] ski/rizon psi ?
[04:32:58] ski/rizon perhaps
[04:34:05] ski/rizon TheFatherMind : sounds nice
[04:37:56] ski/rizon mrinfinity : Denis Lindbohm thought that, if your ontology, your world view, allowed these weird things to happen, that'd make it more likely that they happened to you
[04:38:56] ski/rizon (at the least, it sounds reasonable to argue that it'd make it more likely that one'd notice, or remember)
[04:42:28] ski/rizon we tend to feel bliss, when we forget about ourselves
[04:43:37] ski/rizon (probably related to the "flow" state, as well)
[04:46:21] ski/rizon hm, i think probably not
[04:46:42] ski/rizon (that sounds like, hm .. ayna (?) chakra, yes ?)
[04:47:44] ski/rizon (i've had (very brief) experiences, that when i (much) later retold them to someone else, they said it was related to "third eye" stuff. i'm not sure about that, but they're certainly interesting)
[04:48:51] ski/rizon star ?
[04:49:27] ski/rizon oh, that thing
[04:51:10] ski/rizon mrinfinity : anyway .. what you describe does sound similar to what i e.g. read Thomas Merton describe (in his biography)
[04:52:33] ski/rizon (he was a trappist monk, interested in meditation/contemplation. he travelled to Dharamsala, to discuss it with tibetan lamas there. also wen't to Bangkok to discuss with it with the buddhists there. he figured that there had to be a way to compare the experiences as such, even if the overarching systems and dogmata were quite different)
[04:53:30] ski/rizon (he was also interested in Zen, told in his biography of a dream in which he had the trappist robe, but it had certain attributes that marked it as similar to Zen buddhist monk robes)
[04:54:21] ski/rizon mrinfinity : yea .. there's definitely a whole lot of nonsense and bad advice around, for people looking into this kind of stuff
[04:55:07] ski/rizon we think we are. i don't really believe we are capable of that
[04:55:23] ski/rizon .. that's not to say there couldn't be really bad things happening, as a consequence
[04:56:30] ski/rizon .. also part of the reason why i'm interested in stuff like distributed cognition, and recognizing super-individuals, like sports teams, cities, companies, countries
[04:57:10] ski/rizon (talk about "egregores", lately)
[04:57:58] ski/rizon KurtGodel : hm, may have heard the name of that institute, before
[05:03:05] ski/rizon "RFA/RE" ?
[05:03:56] ski/rizon ty
[05:07:53] ski/rizon hm, makes sense
[05:12:37] ski/rizon "BO" ?
[05:12:51] ski/rizon interesting
[05:12:54] ski/rizon in which way ?
[05:12:56] ski/rizon acrid ?
[05:13:37] ski/rizon i recall, years ago, occasionally noticing some people on public transportation smelling acrid
[05:14:02] ski/rizon some years ago, i got lyme's, and had to eat penicillin for ten days. a bit into that, i noticed myself smelling acrid
[05:15:10] ski/rizon (i also very rarely ingest alcohol. i don't like beer. sometimes i'll drink cider at family gatherings, but it's often alcohol-free. last time i drank wine was, i believe, at a funeral, maybe eight years ago)
[05:15:20] ski/rizon the penicillin ? prescription
[05:17:10] ski/rizon KurtGodel : oh, i was out at the countryside place, probably walked through high grass, and got a tic
[05:18:03] ski/rizon i got a red circle, getting wider, at my ankle
[05:18:26] ski/rizon (maybe eight centimetres or so wide, when i got to the medical examination)
[05:19:13] ski/rizon fifel : but they reverted back to normal, in how long ?
[05:19:23] ski/rizon yea
[05:19:43] ski/rizon my brother is a botanist, has had it a few times. when he saw it, he knew immediately what it was
[05:20:36] ski/rizon (he's not one to go to the medical doctor often, but said that in this case, it was required)
[05:24:06] ski/rizon that's quite a long time, yea :(
[05:25:46] ski/rizon (my bowels were certainly messed up quite a long while by the penicillin .. seems to mostly've settled down now, though)
[05:27:10] ski/rizon heh
[05:35:19] ski/rizon NiniGeo2 : yea, this was like eight years ago or something, now
[05:35:57] ski/rizon (i guess my brother is more into the probiotic food stuff)
[05:37:59] ski/rizon (also raw vegan stuff)
